Charles Dale Donaldson

Charles Dale Donaldson, 92, of New Castle, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, in his home.

Mr. Donaldson was born on February 23, 1934, in New Castle, a son of the late Earl and Nellie (Cartwright) Donaldson. He graduated from New Castle High School and later obtained his bachelor's degree in business from Heald College, San Francisco, CA.

Upon graduation, Charles joined the United States Army in 1953, serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1955.

On March 1, 1954, he married the former Geraldine Novak, who passed away on December 20, 2005.

He was a member of the former St. Joseph the Worker Parish, New Castle.

Charles was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his work. He owned and operated C & F Construction and was a proud member of Laborers Local 964. He continued working for as long as he was able.

He enjoyed simple pleasures in life, especially thrifting and visiting flea markets. Charles was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and found enjoyment in canning and caring for the flowers around his home. Above all, he cherished his family and considered his many friends to be family as well. He also formed many lasting friendships with several Amish families.

Charles is survived by his four children, Craig Donaldson (companion, Helen), New Castle, Kim Baum, Charleston, SC, Sherry Church (Jim), and Patricia Papa (Dave), both of New Castle; 12 grandchildren, Brandon Donaldson, Ashlee Sidorchuk (Ryan), James, Michael, and Hunter Church, Marissa and Victoria Baum, Cody (Skylar) and Nicholas Papa, Christopher Donaldson, Hannah Banales (Angel), and Jennifer Donaldson; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie, Maverick, and Remi Sidorchuk, Evie Donaldson, and Sumilu Banales.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frank Donaldson; two brothers, William and Bud Donaldson; four sisters, Shirley Cobert, Eleanor Naderisnki, Betty Withrow, and Margaret Smart; and son-in-law, Dave Baum.

A funeral service will be held Friday (9/25/26) at 2:30 p.m., in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle, with Deacon John Carran, officiating.

Calling hours will immediately follow from 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
