Charles Bowers

Charles E. (Chuck) (Bossman) Bowers entered eternal rest Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born July 25, 1948, the oldest son of the late Charles Sr. and Mary Ellen (Donovan) Bowers. Upon graduation from Academy High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Vietnam from 1966-1969. He married the love of his life, Paula (Messina) Bowers, on August 2, 1969. He joined the Erie Police Department in 1970 and proudly served the Erie community for 36 years, retiring at the rank of Chief of Police in 2006. Upon his retirement, he spent his time creating a lifetime of memories with his kids & his grandkids, all of whom he loved deeply. He was the proud father of Charlie (Amy), Carlie (Chuck), & Tony (Lindsay), and grandfather of Charlie, Josh, Jack, Adam, Ryan, Maggie, Mikayla & Caden. He is further survived by his brothers & sisters, Suzy, Nancy, Randy (Barbara), Jack (Denise), Katie, and Tracie, and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Bob (Goody) Goodwill, & sister-in-law, Susie Bowers. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
