Charles Eugene Bordell, 1040 S. Hermitage Rd., Hermitage, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Monday (4-27-09) in the St. Elizabeth Hospital and Medical Center, Youngstown, Ohio. He was 64.
Mr. Bordell was born September 26, 1944 in Blairsville, PA.
He moved to the area as a young boy and attended Sharon High School. Charlie, as he was known to many, retired from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant where he was employed for more than thirty years.
He served with the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the Rifle Badge; and was a sharpshooter.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post # 6233, West Middlesex; the American Legion, Post # 299, Sharon; and the Mercer County Vietnam Veterans Association.
Charlie was an avid Oakland Raider fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Kathleen Robinson, whom he married September 7, 1996; a son, Charles Eugene Bordell, Jr., Missoula, Montana; two step-sons, Ben Lynam and his wife Kelly and their children Henry and William, all Virginia Beach, VA; and James Lynam and his wife Kelly, Marysville, PA; a half sister, Linda Negrea and her husband John; two half brothers, Richard Kephart and his fiancé Dorothy 'Cookie' Porterfield; and George Kephart, all Sharon.
Charlie was preceded in death by a half sister, Joanne Hummell; and three half brothers, Larry Kephart; John Kephart; and Jasper 'Junior' Kephart.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to any veterans association.
Calling hours will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday (4-29-09) and one hour before the service on Thursday (4-30-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday (4-30-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Morgan, pastor of the Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage, officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by the W. Middlesex VFW and the Wheatland American Legion Honor Guard.
