Obituary

Charles T. Baker, 82, of Hermitage, passed away Saturday evening, September 23, 2023, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Baker was born on July 7, 1941, in Sharon, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Gassner) Baker. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1959 graduate of Hickory High School.

Charles was employed for more than 30 years at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant. Upon the plant's closure, he worked at Haywood Industries and retired from M7 in Youngstown, OH.

A devout Catholic, Charles was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. Throughout the years, he was involved in several church organizations and social clubs.

He meticulously took care of his garden and enjoyed feeding the birds and deer. Charles also liked to play scratch-off tickets and take trips to the casino. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.

His wife, the former Carol Marks, whom he married on September 9, 1967, survives at home.

He is also survived by a daughter, Carla (Philip) Dzurinda, Hermitage; two sons, John Baker, Hubbard, OH, and Jeffrey Baker, Hermitage; six grandchildren, Thomas (Cassandra) Berkinyi, Bradley (Erika) Dzurinda, Ryan and Zachary Dzurinda, Bethany Baker, and Brianna Garman; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Berkinyi, and Amelia Dzurinda; a great-grandson, Jackson Thomas Berkinyi, on the way; two sisters, Kathy Struck, and Carol Campbell; three brothers, Joseph (Carol) Baker, Michael Baker, and Dave Nettinger; and three sisters-in-law, Mary R. Marks, Donna Buckley, and Betty Baker.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank Nettinger; a brother, Lawrence Baker; and a brother-in-law, William Struck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Rd., West Middlesex, PA 16159.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday (09/28/2023) in the Church of the Good Shepherd, with Rev. Glenn Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
