Cecelia I. Alter, 102, of Conneaut Lake, PA, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Crawford County Care Center, Seagertown, PA.
Mrs. Alter was born on December 26, 1922, at home in Sharon, a daughter of the late John and Emma (Fromm) Cook. She attended the former St. Joseph's Parochial Grade School and was a 1942 graduate of Sharon High School.
Cecelia retired as the supervisor of the data processing department of the former General American Transportation Corp (GATX). During WWII, she worked in the payroll department of the former National Castings, Sharon.
She married James Alter on October 4, 1958, who preceded her in death on August 22, 2006.
Cecelia was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, where she volunteered in various capacities and was in many small groups.
Throughout the area, she was involved in many local organizations, most notably serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Service Club of Sharpsville, and was on the board of directors of the GATX Service Club.
A social butterfly, she was always on the go, whether it was to a local meeting, going out to eat or visiting Buhl Park. Cecelia also found joy in simple things like spending time at camp.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Cecelia was preceded in death by five siblings, Barbara Gibbs, Veronica Koch, Rita George, and George and James Cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (06/21/2025) in St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, with Rev. James Power, pastor as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
