Carolyn Kirby, 86, of Sharon, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Kirby was born on April 7, 1937, in Sharon, a daughter of the late George and Amelia (Madsen) Kemper. She was a 1955 graduate of Sharon High School and earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. Later, she completed her certifications at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Before becoming a homemaker, Carolyn taught second grade for five years for the Hermitage School District. When her children were grown, she went back to work as a customer service representative at the former Petrini Insurance Company in downtown Sharon.

Carolyn was a  75 year member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

For many years she volunteered at the Sharon Public Library, Sharon Regional Medical Center and the local voting polls.

Carolyn loved being outside, walking regularly with her husband and working in her garden. She also kept detailed documentation of her family ancestry.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Barry Kirby, whom she married on July 18, 1959; a daughter, Kirsten Tallman and her husband John, King of Prussia, PA; a son, Christopher Kirby and his significant other Sarah Brady, Minnetonka, MN; two grandsons, Jack and William Tallman; a brother, George Kemper, North Canton, OH; and several incredible nieces and nephew.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Judy Kemper and a daughter in law Amy Kirby

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Hink, officiating.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
