Obituary

Carl E. Purash of 79 Grange Rd. New Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:49 am in Sharon Regional Health Systems. He was 81.

Mr. Purash was born in Sharon, PA on October 5, 1928, a son of the late Paul and Mary Smith Purash.

He attended Farrell Schools.

Carl was a Korean War Veteran and served in the United States Army.

Mr. Purash retired in 1990, after 44 years working various jobs in the railroad department of Sharon Steele. While at Sharon Steele, Carl also was employed with the Shenango Township Road Department.

He was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Hermitage. Carl also belonged to the Farrell VFW Post 5286 and in earlier years was a volunteer firefighter for Shenango Township. Mr. Purash loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden, which provided numerous of friends and family with fresh vegetables over the years. Most of all he was a hardworking family man.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Makara Purash, whom he married January 22, 1956; 2 daughters, Lydia A. and her husband Mark Schlenker and their two children, Paul J. and Marissa E. Schlenker of Garner, NC and Lorene A. Purash of New Wilmington, PA; 3 sisters, Mildred Turin and Pauline Allen both of New York City, NY, and Sandra J. Summersgill of West Middlesex, PA; Carl is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, he is preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers, Helen Bodri, Veronica West, James Purash, Betty Bacchetti, Dorothy Vecchione, Patricia Gerrish, and Paul Purash.

Calling hours will he held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146. Family will also receive people a half hour prior to the service in the church.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Church of the Redeemer, 5130 E. State St. Hermitage with Fr. Richard Rowe.

Internment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars West Middlesex Post 6233, Farrell Post 5286, and the Wheatland American Legion Post 432.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Shenango Presbyterian Seniorcare / Woodside Unit, 238 South Market St. New Wilmington, PA 16142.
