Obituary

Carl J. Juranovich of Sharon, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Thursday (7-21-2016) surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Juranovich was born March 14, 1930, in Farrell, a son of John and Anna Kulich Juranovich. A lifelong area resident, he graduated Farrell High School in 1948.

Carl worked as an Attendance Officer at Sharon Schools for 14 years before his retirement in 1992. Previously he had worked at Sharon Steel, Westinghouse and for several years owned and operated the Old Tymer restaurant in downtown Sharon.

He was a member of Sharon American Legion Post 299 and the Croation Fraternal Union Lodge #126.

An all-around athlete, Mr. Juranovich was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame in 1989. His athletic career dates back to Farrell High as a wrestler and he went on to become a wrestling coach at Sharon High and an assistant at Hubbard.

He was an avid golfer for over 40 years.  However, he was most well-known for his accomplishments as a Fast-Pitch softball player.  Carl was one of the finest fast-pitch players ever developed during the heyday of fast-pitch in the Shenango Valley.  He pitched 78 innings in 11 straight games without walking a single batter.  He posted at least 20 wins a year for a 15-year period, including 9 no-hitters and 1 perfect game.

Carl went on to become the beloved assistant/pitching coach for girls fast-pitch softball in Hubbard, affectionately known as "Uncle Carl."  He also coached summer travel ball.  Among his proudest accomplishments was conducting  private pitching lessons for girls in the entire surrounding area.

Mr. Juranovich is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Alice Hall; three daughters, Carla (Art) Poco, Pembroke Pines, FL; Karen Logan and LeeAnn Juranovich, both of Farrell; two sisters, Dolores Juranovich and Betty (John) Raica; one brother, Bill (Peggy) Juranovich.

Also surviving are: six grandchildren; Megan, Katie, Michael, Alexandra, Gabrielle and Kayla; and four great grandchildren, Trevon, Ariana, Laila and Giana, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
