Obituary

Buddy M. Lyth of 136 Hazen Place, Sharon, PA. He went home to be with the Lord at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at his residence. He was 74.
Bud was born in Sharon, PA on June 19, 1934, to Wain and Estella Johnson Lyth.
He attended Sharon Schools until 1949.
Buddy went onto work at Shenango Penn Mold, formerly Shenango Inc. where we worked as a crane man until he retired on November 30, 1992 after 41 years of service. He also worked driving school bus for Paul Bortner and after retirement worked as a school crossing guard for the City of Sharon and Sharon Schools for 8 years.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Sharon, PA for the past 56 years where he served on the Board of Trustees and also helped operate the Church's Food Pantry where he enjoyed helping others in their time of need. Bud was a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association for 32 years under which he officiated High School Basketball and baseball games for all of our local school districts. He also belonged to the Shenango Valley Umpires Association officiating the men's Church League and Modified League softball games. In his early years he coached grade school basketball teams at Russell School. He coached Sharon Little league for 11 years and moved up to the Babe Ruth Baseball Program in Sharon for 10 years. Bud always enjoyed working with young people and in 1994 was awarded the half helmet award by the coaches of the Sharon Tigers for his work with Sharon Touchdown Club. He and his wife were season ticket holders to all football and basket!

Bud enjoyed taking bus trips and playing Euchre with his wife and friends. He was an avid Cleveland Browns Fan since 1951. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include: his wife Alice (Bennington) Lyth, whom he married January 16, 1954; 2 daughters, Susan and her husband Luke Simion of Brookfield, and Kathi and her husband Robert Thornton of Grant Michigan; 2 sisters Dorothy Bole of Hermitage, and Bonita and her husband Richard Laverty of Hermitage; a sister-in-law Martha Lyth of California. Also 4 loving grandchildren who he was always so proud of. They are Jason and Jessica Simion, Brookfield, Amanda, wife of Ian Blyth of Pittsburgh, and Robert 'Bo' Thornton who is in his sophomore year of College in Midland, MI.
Preceding Bud in death was a wonderful loving daughter, Patti Ann Giroski, 5 brothers, William, Fred, Donald, Robert, and Jack Lyth; 2 sisters, Shirley Lapikas and Norma Root.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146
A church service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sharon, with Pastor John Trojak.
