Obituary

Brenda Lou Black, of Sharon, passed away at 4:17 p.m. Monday, December 25, 2017, in her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was 53.

Brenda was born March 10, 1964, in Sharon, a daughter of Robert E. and Mary L. (Krofcheck) Calvin.  She was a lifelong area resident and a 1982 graduate of Sharon High School.  Brenda was a certified cosmetologist and a manager and stylist at Cost Cutters in the Hermitage Plaza.  A homemaker, she was an active parent volunteer and assisted in fundraising efforts for her daughters' activities.  She also volunteered at the Children's Aid Society in Mercer.  Brenda taught gymnastics at the Buhl Community Recreation Center in Sharon for more than 30 years and was the cheerleading advisor at Sharon High School for 15 years.

Surviving is her husband, Robert E. Black, whom she married June 18, 1988; three daughters, twins Kamala M. Black and her fiancé Lee Sham, Hubbard, OH; and Keeley R. Yeager and her husband Darrell, Camp Hill, PA; and Mackenzie L. Bittler and her husband Steve, Sharon; two grandchildren, Cameron and Bailey Bittler; her parents, Robert and Mary Calvin, Sharon; a sister, Susan L. McBride and her husband David, Clemmons, NC; a brother, Robert E. Calvin and his fiancé Joy Squibb, Hubbard, OH; her father-in-law, Melvin Black, Sharon; nieces, Rebecca and Rachelle Calvin; and a nephew, Riley McBride.  She also leaves the Jones, Bodien and Vogan children whom she was very close and helped care for.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Glennis Diane Black.

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Friday, December 29, 2017, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.,
1090 E. State St., Sharon .

Funeral service will be 5 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Chris Bobby, associate pastor of Grace Chapel Community Church, Hermitage, officiating.
