Betty Christensen North, 90, of Shenango Twp., passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, July 2, 2026.
Mrs. North was born December 13, 1935, in Reynoldsville, PA, a daughter of the late Nelson and Jenny (Crawford) Christensen. Later, she was adopted by her stepmother, Marian Elizabeth (David) Christensen. She graduated from DuBois Joint Area High School.
A woman of many talents, Betty retired from Mellon Bank in 1995, where she worked as a customer service representative. She also owned and operated the Christy North Shop in Ellwood City, PA, alongside her husband, Gordon. Earlier in her life, Betty worked as a classified advertising agent for the New Castle News.
Betty was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in New Castle and was previously a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
An avid reader, she looked forward to camping adventures with her husband and children. Betty also enjoyed crafting and selling at shows.
Betty was an active member of the local community. She volunteered at the Women’s Crisis Center – where she was the recipient of the Extra Miler Award, and volunteered at the Hostess Shop in Jameson Hospital. In appreciation of her service to the community and civic organizations, Betty was presented with a certificate of recognition by State Senator Ross. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Lodge 455, New Castle.
Her husband of nearly 69 years, Gordon J. North, whom she married on April 7, 1956, preceded her in death on April 21, 2025.
Betty is survived by a son, Gordon Nelson North; a daughter, Lisa Dawn Medved; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn M. Toskin.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by an infant brother and sisters; and a son-in-law, James Medved.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, online at: cancer.org/donate.
Funeral services were held privately, and interment followed in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois, PA.
