Obituary
Betty Jane Dodson, 72, of 1116 S. Mercer St. passed away at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 20, 2011, in Jameson Hospital.
Mrs. Dodson was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Beckley, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Pearl Basham Dodson.
She was educated in West Virginia and moved to New Castle following her marriage.
Betty retired from Sears in the former Towne Mall, where she was employed for 20 years as a clerk and later as a manager.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Surviving are: twin daughters, Valerie Mae Proctor, wife of Dr. Stephen Proctor of Burke, Va., and Versella Mable Crunkleton, wife of George G. Crunkleton of Aurora, Colo.; a son, Lawrence D. Hill, husband of Darlene E. Hill of Azusa, Calif.; six grandchildren, Carmen and Stephen Proctor, Kerry and Grant Crunkleton, and Nathan and Marcus Hill; three great-grandchildren, Julian, Victoria and Torrance; three sisters, Zettie Mae Gunn of San Diego, Lola Cook, wife of Calvin Cook of Cleveland, and Maxine Moore, wife of the Rev. Thomas Moore, also of Cleveland; three brothers, Obediah Dodson, husband of Barbara Dodson of New Castle, Jesse Dodson, husband of Ned Dodson of Roanoke, Va., and Warren Dodson, husband of Sue Dodson of Flint, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty Jane was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Paris Hill; two sisters, Tenny Hill and Doll Gunn; three brothers, Timothy, Will and C.C. Dodson; and her former husband, Paul Delbert Hill.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Prevailing Word World Outreach Center, Union Township.
A service will be conducted at noon Saturday at the center with the Rev. David M. Young Sr., pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Obediah and Barbara Dodson, 406 E. Wallace Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
