Bertha Kraute, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 17, 2019, in Quality of Life Services, Mercer. She was 97.
Mrs. Kraute was born December 25, 1921, in Delancy, PA, a daughter of the late Stanley and Bertha (Filipovich) Maciejewski. She was raised near Punxsutawney, PA, and graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School in 1939.
Her husband, Edward Kraute, whom she married November 22, 1949, passed away September 4, 1991.
An exceptional secretary, Bertha was initially employed by the federal government, and later retired from the Commonwealth of PA, following many years of service.
Bertha was a longtime member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, where she served as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher and enjoyed making pierogis for the annual Easter sale.
She is survived by a brother, Stan H. Maciejewski, Punxsutawney, PA; two grandchildren, Lauren and Bret Friedrich, both of Arizona; a niece, Lori Ann Comacho, and two nephews, Mark Maciejewski and Dr. Stan Maciejewski.
In addition to her husband, Bertha was preceded in death by her daughter, Janine Friedrich; and a brother, Bernard Maciejewski.
A Mass of Christian burial was held privately.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
