Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" Leckfor of West Middlesex passed away at 1:49 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 90.

Mr. Leckfor was born October 3, 1926, in New Castle, the son of Michael W. Leckfor and Stella Grocki Leckfor. He was a 1944 graduate of New Castle High School.

Bernie was drafted into the US Army during WWII. He served his country from January 25, 1945, until November 21, 1946, as a Technician Fifth Grade, with the 209th Military Police Company.

Following his discharge he worked as a brake man for the railroad until his retirement.

Bernie was a life member of Hickory VFW Post #6166; life member of Sharon Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #327; life member of Wheatland American Legion Post #432; life member of AMVETS Post #550 of Florida; life member of Farrell First Slovak Workingmans Educational Club; Sharon Elks Lodge #103; and Farrell Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #55.

Surviving are: his daughter in law, Mary Leckfor, Sharon; his companion, Hannah Ryser, Hubbard; two sisters, Gertrude Miller, Port Orange, FL; and Eleanor Siglow, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Edward Leckforand his wife Virginia, Tolland, CT; and John Leckfor, Manchester, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jon S. Leckfor; and two sisters, Mary Blashak; and Bernice Gallagher; two brothers, Walter and Ronald Leckfor.

There are no services.
