Ben J. Hogue, 89, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 25, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Mr. Hogue was born April 21, 1935, in New Castle, a son of the late William and Dorothy (Pherson) Hogue. After attending New Castle High School, Ben enlisted in the U.S. Marines.
A proud veteran, he served from February of 1954 to February of 1957 and was deployed abroad during the Korean War.
Ben worked in construction sales and as a heavy equipment operator at Smith Paving in New Castle. During retirement, he worked in a similar capacity for Forbes Excavating, also in New Castle.
Ben was an outdoorsman who looked forward to hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his motorcycle.
His wife of nearly 40 years, Carol J. Hogue, whom he married December 27, 1975, preceded him in death on August 2, 2015.
Ben is survived by four daughters, Soni Zeppelin (Steve), of Volant, Karen Johnson, of Canton, OH, Lisa Miller (Skip), of Toronto, OH, and Dee Weinschenk (Tim), of New Castle; two sons, Robert Hogue (Belinda), of Longs, SC, and Daniel Hogue (Cindi), of Ellwood City; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ben was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Martino; a son-in-law, John Johnson; and a sister, Nancy Neathery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday (9-30-24) at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard at 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held immediately following with Rev. Matt Bupp, officiating.
Interment: Oak Park Cemetery, Neshannock Twp.
