Barbara Ann (Fuerle) Stover, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was 84.
Mrs. Stover was born on February 25, 1934, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., a daughter of Rudolph R. and Kathryn (Dauster) Fuerle. Moving to the area as a young child, she was a 1952 graduate of Sharpsville High School where she participated in many clubs and activities.
Barb enjoyed spending time with her friends at Buhl Farm Park swimming, golfing, and playing tennis. She was an instructor at Sharon City Recreation Program where she met her husband of 60 years, Charles C. "Bud" Stover.
Barb graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in Wilkinsburg and continued at the former Hadley School in Sharon.
Barb was a devoted and selfless wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed taking care of her family, friends, and community and made everyone feel cared for and welcomed. She also loved hosting family gatherings, family beach vacations, spending time with her grandchildren and grand dogs, events with her friends, and volunteering. She and her husband, Bud, traveled extensively over the years.
Barb had a lifelong commitment to community service. For more than 50 years, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, where she served as an usher, deacon, and as a co-chair of the Presbyterian Women's Mission Work. She was also a member of the Wishart Circle and the Memorial Committee and dedicated much time over the years to the bazaar and rummage sale.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Carol Stover Aruta and her three children, Anna, Alle and Caden, New Market, Md; two sons, David Stover and his wife Jana, West Middlesex; and Craig Stover and his wife Alyson, and their children Connor and Avary, also of West Middlesex; her sister Linda F. Fisk and her husband Ronald D. Fisk, Robesonia, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Thomas R. Pickering, Alexandria, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles C. "Bud" Stover; her parents; two sons, infant Robert R. Stover and Richard C. Stover; and a brother, Richard D. Fuerle.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sharon Regional Cancer Care Center; Kindred Hospice; Savannah and Nancy of Caregivers Plus; and a special thanks to Audri for her care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146; or to the Buhl Park Foundation, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2018, in the First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, with Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Hink, senior pastor, officiating.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
