Obituary

Barbara Stewart Levine, formerly of Hermitage, passed away at 9:58 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2015, in St. Paul's Home, West Salem Township, where she was a resident for the past 6 years. She was 87. Mrs. Levine was born May 30, 1928, in Sharon, a daughter of John B. and Frances Livingston Lewis. A lifelong area resident, she was a 1946 graduate of Sharon High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Westminster College, New Wilmington. Barbara retired in 1993 from the Sharon School District where she taught for 43 years. She was a member of the National and Pennsylvania Education Associations. Barbara was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Known as "lovely" to all who knew her, including her students, she was "Aunt Lovely" to her nieces and nephews. She was a longtime active member of the former Sharon Country Club and had a passion for the game of golf. She played golf daily in the summer months and enjoyed all of her rounds with family and friends. She was also a member of the College Club of Sharon. Barbara had a wonderful sense of humor and appreciated a great joke or prank. Her husband, Merle M. Levine, whom she married February 7, 1981, passed away November 25, 2007. Surviving are: three step-children, Jane Matusick (Michael), Hermitage; David Levine (Linda), Naples, FL; and Barbara Kesselman (Irving), Denver, CO; six step-grandchildren, Helen Matusick, Aaron Matusick (Sandy); Andrea Levine (Carissa); Jeff Levine; Kelly Steron (Marc); and Marc Kesselman; six step great-grandchildren, Kalen and Kas Trapp; Micah Levine; Mara and Michael Steron; and Jacob Kesselman; a sister, Betsy Lewis Andersen, Estero, FL; two nieces, Stephanie Andersen Gillian, Estero, FL; and Jennifer Duboc, Wilmette, IL; two nephews, Frederic Duboc, Greenwood Village, CO; and Samuel Duboc, Toronto, Canada; 9 grand nieces and 6 grand nephews; and a cousin, Janet Lewis Honecker, Wheeling, W. VA. Besides her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beverly Lewis Duboc; a brother, John Burt Lewis; a niece and her namesake, Barbara Andersen Bauer; and a nephew, Christopher John Duboc. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. There are no calling hours. Private funeral service will be held in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon, with Rev. Dr. Glen Hink, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
