Mrs. Barbara S. Crago, 1220 Yahres Road, Sharon,Pa. formerly of Mt. Hickory Blvd., Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 8:00 a.m. on Friday (3-13-09) at her residence following an extended illness. She was 74.
She was born on November 13, 1934 in Staten Island, New York, the daughter of Charles and Frances Birmingham Smith.
Mrs. Crago was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Staten Island, New York, and attended Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, and a former member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where she enjoyed teaching Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of Avalon Golf and Country Club and she also enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, and sewing.
In her youth, Barbara enjoyed showing and riding horses and she was found of the English saddle style of riding.
Her husband Dr. H. Robert Crago whom she married on August 25, 1956, survives at the residence.
She also leaves her daughter, Patricia A. Hensley and her husband Rick, Akron OH; two sons, Dr. Robert C. Crago and his wife Mira, Wrentham MA; and Dr. Matthew D. Crago and his wife Morrigan, Sharon; two sisters, Suzanne Rose, Pennsauken NJ; Nancy Smith, Wilmington, DE; and two brothers, Charles W. Smith and his wife Mary, Chestertown, NY; and David L Smith and his wife Mary, Vienna VA; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Rachael, and Reed Hensely, Madeline and Matthew Crago, and Colin and Erin Crago.
Barbara deeply appreciated her family and friends love and support through her difficult illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Cancer Care Center 2320 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday ((3-16-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (3-17-09) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. J. Thomas Dugan, senior associate as celebrant.
Interment: Committal prayers will be held in the Buhl Memorial Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery with burial to follow.
