Augustus G. "Gus" Flynn, 87 of 1414 Sunny Ave.,Passed away the evening of May 3, 2010 in Jameson Hospital surrounded by his family.
Gus was born on July 25, 1922 in New Castle to the late Augustus and Julia Kelly Flynn.
He married the former Pheobe A. Barber on May 1, 1954 and she survives him at home. He was employed by the Johnson Bronze Company for 39 years as a machinist in the aluminum shop. Gus also owned and operated the Cascade Miniature Golf Course for 30 years. He was a 1941 Graduate of New Castle High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force on October 31, 1942 and was discharged as a sergeant on November 17, 1945. Gus served as a radio operator in the Aleutians. For his service he received the American Theater ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Good Conduct Medal,W W II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.Gus enjoyed bowling and most of all spending time with his family. He was a life long member of St. Mary Church, Mary,Mother of hope Parish.
Besides his wife he leave 5 daughters, Collen Kearns and her husband Paul,Edye Gwin and her husband Tim all of New Castle. Barb Kennedy and her husband Chris of New Bedford,Susan Brant and her husband Jim of Brookville,and Karen Buccelli of Ellwood City. One Son Edward Flynn of Greensboro,N.C., One brother William Flynn of New Castle. Nine grandchildren survive, Stacey Flynn, Molly Kearns;Kristen,Lindsey and Jenna Brant; Alyssa and Tori Buccelli; Adam and Sean Gwin.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers James and John Flynn.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m on Thursday for St. Mary Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by the Rev. Victor J. Molka Jr,Pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Honor Guard at the cemetery. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers James and John Flynn.
