Augustine "Augie" P. Masters of Sharon passed away at 6 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a seven-month illness. He was 88. Mr. Masters was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Sharon, a son of Guy and Maria Santa Merola Masters. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Sharon High School. Mr. Masters served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer third class during World War II. Augie retired as an assistant sales engineer from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was employed for 43 years. He was a charter member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Augie belonged to the Westinghouse Retired Employees Association and enjoyed reading and photography. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed traveling to Italy with his wife and son. Augie devoted his life to his wife and children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are: his wife, the former Gloria J. Conti McGrath, whom he married May 7, 1949, in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; a daughter, Cynthia A. Freund and her husband Frank; two sons, Gary G. Masters and his wife Rita; and Mark S. Masters, all of Hermitage; six grandchildren, Farrah Freund Multari, Maria Masters and her husband Jason Clester, Michelle Masters, Giovanni Masters, Santina Masters and Luciana Masters; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Multari; a brother-in- law, Richard McGrath and his wife Christine, Berwyn, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Augie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anne Prelee and Mary Fabian; two brothers, John and Dominic Masters; and a great-grandson, Cross Anthony Multari.
