A private funeral service will be held for Arthur R. Maskrey, 205 Superior St., Hermitage. He passed away unexpectedly at 9:08 a.m. Saturday (12-11-10) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System after an apparent heart attack. He was 76.
Mr. Maskrey was born July 25, 1934, in Hartford, Ohio, a son of Dewey and Frances Martin Maskrey.
A lifelong area resident, he attended Hartford and Hickory schools.
Mr. Maskrey retired in 1986 from the former Sawhill Tubular Products-Division of Cyclops' Wheatland plant, where he was employed for 33 years.
Art was a well-known stock car racer in the area. He raced predominately at Mercer Speedway and Sharon Speedway and qualified for and won many events throughout the years. He was a very giving man and served as a coach and manager for Zayre's and Goldstein baseball teams in Patagonia Little League, when his sons were young. He was a member of the Patagonia Volunteer Fire Department. Art enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he adored. He was an honest and hardworking man who was extremely devoted to his family.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Catherine 'Kitty' Hunyadi, whom he married Feb. 10, 1953; two daughters, Laura L. Jones and her husband Kent Jones I; and Vicki L. Monfredi and her husband James, all Hermitage; two sons, Arthur M. Maskrey and his wife Claudette, Hermitage; and Bryan D. Maskrey and his wife Jacqueline, Cranberry Township, Butler County; nine grandchildren, William, Michael and Jenney Maskrey; Kent Jones II and Sherry Jones; Eric and Heather Monfredi; and Haley and Katie Maskrey; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Chloe and Kent III; and Evan, Xander, Trent and Michael John; two sisters, Rose Emma Lark and her husband James, Hermitage; and Nancy Mann, Des Moines, Iowa; and two brothers, Robert Maskrey and his wife Edna Mae, Brookfield; and Dean Maskrey, Mercer.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry Frances Maskrey, who died in infancy; and a sister, Delora Greenlee. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
