Obituary

Arthur J. Aaron, 97, of Hermitage passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2018, in St. John XXIII Home.

Mr. Aaron was born September 27, 1921, in North Pine Grove, PA, a son of the late Thomas B. and Glenna (Fish) Aaron. He was a 1939 graduate of the former Farmington High School in Clarion County, PA.

A proud veteran, Arthur honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and was awarded numerous citations and several medals for his wartime service.

Arthur retired in 1985 from the former Sharon Transformer Div. of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he worked as a coil winder for 32 years. He was previously employed by Montgomery Ward's Appliance Service in both Punxsutawney and Sharon, PA.

Arthur was a founding member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 299, Sharon; the Hickory VFW, Post 6166, Hermitage; and the Westinghouse Retirees.

A talented craftsman, Arthur enjoyed carpentry work and cabinet making. He also liked working in his vegetable and flower gardens. Arthur, affectionately known as "PopPop," loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His wife, the former Elizabeth J. "Betty Jane" Neal, whom he married June 29, 1946, passed away April 29, 2018.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas F. (Sharon) Aaron, Curwensville, PA, and Terence J. (Candice) Aaron, Batavia, IL; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Arthur was preceded in death by a sister, Helene Nuhfer; and a brother, Edsel Kelly.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 1955 Shenango Valley Fwy, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (11-14-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday (11-15-18) in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard Allen, pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.

Full military honors will be rendered by the Sharon American Legion honor guard.
