Obituary

Archie R. Hoffman, Jr. of Hermitage passed away at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012 in Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Center, New Wilmington. He was 86.

Mr. Hoffman was born August 22, 1925 in Sharon, PA the son of Archie R. Sr. and Hazel L. Peters Hoffman.

He was a graduate of Sharon High School. Archie went on to attend Marietta College where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

Archie served in the United State Army in the 86th Infantry division during World War II. He fought in both Theaters and was at the Battle of the Bulge and was stationed in the Philippines.

Mr. Hoffman loved to fly and was involved in many aspects of aviation. In his early years he was a member of a model airplane club. Archie also was active in the Experimental Aircraft Association and was a pilot himself. Archie was also a very proud member of Mensa.

Surviving are: his beloved wife, Martha Wellman Hoffman, whom he married August 25, 1950; 4 children, David and his wife Patricia Hoffman of Hermitage, PA, Patricia and her husband Robert Czerwinski of Cincinnati, OH, Carol and her husband Chester B. Scholl, Jr. of Hermitage, and Sandra and her husband Remy Mente of Florissant, MO; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Archie was preceded in death by, a grandson David Lee Hoffman Jr.; 3 sisters, Charlotte, Betty, and Helen Marie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Center, 238 S. Market St. New Wilmington, PA 16142.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth A. McCormick officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars West Middlesex Post 6233 and Wheatland American Legion Post 432.
