Obituary

Anthony J. "Zeke" Zarella, 83, of Farrell passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 13, 2020, at his residence. It is with great sorrow that the family announces his passing, however, there is no doubt in our hearts that he is with our Lord and Savior. We also know he was greeted by the love of his life, best friend, and beloved wife, Caroline, after being separated from her for what seemed like forever, but was only four short months.

Mr. Zarella was born on June 27, 1937, in Farrell, a son of Vito and Rose (DiLorenzo) Zarella. Following his graduation from Farrell High School in 1956, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served a year of his duty overseas in Germany. After being honorably discharged, Zeke worked at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant, and then became a mechanic for the City of Farrell. He later worked for former Sharon Transformer Div. of the Westinghouse Electric Corp., serving as a union Steward for the majority of his career at the plant. He ultimately retired from the Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, Farrell, where he worked as a maintenance technician for several years.

Zeke loved working on cars, especially the classics, and taking bus trips to the casino. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed being outdoors working in his vegetable garden. Above all else, Zeke loved his family and cherished the time he was able to spend with all of them.

Zeke married the former Caroline Santell May 18, 1963. For 57 years, they resided in Farrell, raised their family and loved each other unconditionally until her untimely passing on May 5 th of this year.

Together they leave behind three children, Lisa Ann Zarella, of Farrell; Tina Marie (Domonic) Pellis, of Hermitage; and Anthony (Heather) Zarella, also of Hermitage; five grandchildren, Jacqueline Rose (Matthew) McKee, Morgan Marie Pellis (Brandon Cocain), Colton Anthony Pellis, and Connor and Ryan Lengyel; a brother-in-law, Fred (Marilyn) Santell, Cortland, OH; and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Evans, Farrell; and Beverly Zarella, Erie, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Zeke was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Schott, four brothers, an infant Dominic, and Alfred, Dominic "Nigs", and Victor Zarella; and two sisters-in-law, Marge Zarella and Delphine Zarella.

Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we love. Where there is deep grief, there was great love. Mom and Dad, please know there is deep grief because we loved you both so very much.
