Anthony S. "Tony" Walzer, a longtime resident of Farrell, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday afternoon, September 6, 2018, in Whispering Oaks Retirement Community, Hermitage; where he was a resident for eight years. He was 89.
Mr. Walzer was born February 18, 1929, in New Castle, a son of the late Anthony J. and Helen V. (Smialowski) Walzer. He graduated from Farrell High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. A proud veteran, Tony was stationed in Germany following WWII where he served as an MP.
He retired as a lab technician from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant after 40 years of employment.
Tony was of the Methodist faith.
An avid golfer, he participated in the Sharon American Legion Golf League for many years. Tony also enjoyed bowling in leagues at Thornton Hall, Sharon, and as a young man played men's summer league baseball for the Farrell Grays. He was a devout Pittsburgh Pirates fan and would listen to games on the radio before they were broadcast on television.
Tony truly enjoyed his time at Whispering Oaks where he managed the country store and served on the resident board.
His wife, the former Valentina Lysenko, whom he married October 20, 1948, passed away June 26, 2001.
Surviving are: two daughters, Stephanie Fink, Hubbard, OH, and Adele "Dolly" (Anthony) Necastro, West Middlesex; a son, Anthony "Tony" Walzer, Grand Marais, MN; a sister, Rita Anderson, Warren, OH; two grandchildren, Zachary Fink and Jason Walzer; and several great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tony was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Vasey; and a brother, Darrell Walzer.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
In keeping with Tony's wishes, all services will be held privately.
Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.
