Obituary

Anthony "Scrip" M. Morocco, formerly of Shenango Township, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 23, 2015, in the hospice unit of St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage, with his wife by his side, after a lengthy illness. He was 98. Mr. Morocco was born February 17, 1917, in Farrell, a son of Diomede and Michelina Critelli Morocco. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1936 graduate of Farrell High School. Scrip studied music at Radio City Music Hall, NY, NY; and at the Dana School of Music, Youngstown. His first love being music, he was known locally as a pianist and composer. His best-known composition was the song "April," which was recorded by the Benny Jones Band, of which he was a member. He played piano with numerous bands in the Sharon and Youngstown area's and was active as a musician for more than fifty years. He was a life member of Sharon Musicians' Association, Local # 187, A.F. of M., Sharon. Scrip was employed for 34 years in the order service department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. He enjoyed gardening and planted a large vegetable garden for many years. He also enjoyed doing home improvement projects. Scrip was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Rose Mary Meyer, whom he married October 1, 1960. He and his wife were married by the late Rev. Robert Schrieffer and were the first couple married in the newly established Notre Dame Parish. He also leaves two daughters, Michelene Orteza, Sharon, and her close friend, Chuck Carlstrom, Bay Village, Ohio; and Susan Schoeffler and her husband Bill, Cleveland Ht's., Ohio; six grandchildren, Silas, Dominic, Clarice and Frances Orteza; and Sarah and Emma Schoeffler; and several nieces and nephews. Scrip was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Morocco; and three sisters, Victoria Ciotola, Mary Arcade and Nora Reda. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Good Shepherd Education Fund, P.O. Box 226, West Middlesex, PA 16159; or to Sharon Regional Hospice Home Care, 1955 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, with Msgr. Robert Malene, pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass in the Faith Formation Center where a meal will be served. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage. Arrangements by J.
