Obituary

Anthony Stephen Koval, John XXIII Home for Senior Citizens, Hermitage, formerly of Prindle St., Sharon, passed away peacefully on Sunday (1-8-12). He was 92.

Anthony was born on April 28, 1919 in Oliver #1, Fayette, PA, the son of Thomas and Mary Koval.

Anthony was a decorated veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor; he was honorably discharged with the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Defense Medal with two bronze stars, the WWII Victory Medal, and an expert Infantry Combat Badge in June of 1945. Locally he belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1338.

He retired from the United States Department of Defense where he worked as a Parts Router for 23 years at the Youngstown, Ohio Air Force Reserve Base.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Lyons, Ramsey, NJ, Irene (George) Gerba, Spring Grove, PA, and son Richard (Donna) Koval, Mechanicsburg, PA; sisters Elizabeth (Thomas) Maimone, Bullhead City, AZ, and Veronica Szorentini, Scottsdale, AZ and brother John Koval, Waynesburg, PA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Julia and second wife Veronica, and sisters Mary Darjon, Anna Piowlski and brother, Thomas Koval.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday (1-14-12) at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor as the celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage with full military honors provided by the Sharon Honor Guard.
