Obituary

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday (4-17-10) for Anthony R. 'Tony' Grodecki, 880 Patricia Ave., Hermitage, who passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday (4-7-10) at his daughters residence in Powell, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was 82.

Tony, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on March 29, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pa the son of Anthony and Selma Grathowski Grodecki.

He graduated from Hickory High School.

In his earlier years, he was a homebuilder and worked in commercial renovation throughout the Shenango Valley. Tony was a Jack of all trades and the 'go to guy' for many friends and neighbors in their time of need. He also worked for 12 years as the maintenance supervisor for the former Holiday Inn, Hermitage.

Along with his wife, he was a charter member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and served as an usher for many years.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 684, Sharon, and the 4th Degree, Sharon Assembly.

A veteran, he served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged.

His wife, the former Dolores 'Dee' Ann Opalenik whom he married on August 12, 1950, survives at home.

He also leaves his daughter Paulette Bricker and her husband Steven of Powell, Ohio, and a son Daniel E. Grodecki, Hermitage, and three grandchildren, Daniel E. Grodecki II, Kimberly Ann Fleming, and Zoe Elizabeth Bricker, a sister, Theresa Lutz and her husband Joseph, Sharpsville, and a brother Leonard Grodecki and his wife Donna of Burgh Hill, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Wayne Grodecki, and a brother, Joseph Grodecki.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday (4-16-10) and from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (4-17-10) morning in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
