Obituary

Anthony Joseph Garm, Sharon, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday (9-4-12) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 96.

He was born December 7, 1915 in Sharon, the son of Joseph and Mary Francell Garm.

A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School in 1933.

After High School he served with the United States Navy during WWII. A decorated veteran, he served aboard the USS Flaherty and was proud to have been on board when they successfully captured an intact German Submarine. It was the only submarine capture by American forces on the high seas during the war, this dramatic operation provided essential intelligence for future antisubmarine warfare for the allied forces.

A member of the United Steel workers of America, he retired as a foreman in 1977 from the former Sharon Steel Corporation's Farrell plant.

He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and was quite the handyman for his family and friends, he will be sadly missed.

He was a member of the Slovenian Workingmen's Educational Club, Sharon.

His wife the former Evelyn R. Trobentar whom he married on February 14, 1945, passed away on July 2, 2008.

He leaves his daughter, Susan R. Crisan and her husband Thomas, Hermitage, a granddaughter, Jennifer Cole and her husband Christopher, Liberty, OH.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Frances "Fanny" Lasky, Mary Dormish, Rose Bunyak, and Betty Benetto, and one brother, Joseph Garm.

Services: A memorial service will be Friday (9-7-12) at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church 79 Case Ave., Sharon. The service will be held in the Mothers Chapel near the west entrance of the church with Rev. Casimir Bogniak officiating.
