Obituary

Anne Margaret Bruno, 99, formerly of Hermitage, PA and Youngstown, OH, passed away Wednesday. April 7, 2021, in Windsor Medical Center, North Canton, OH.  As she was a strong and remarkable woman, she lived in senior independent living until she was 98 years old.
Mrs. Bruno was born March 15, 1922, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Luigi and Mary (Centofanti) Mangie. She was a 1940 graduate of the former Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown.  Education was extremely important to her but unfortunately she was unable to attend university.  Instead, it was her goal that her three children would have college educations and she made sure this goal was accomplished.
She was a dedicated homemaker who believed in the importance of women in the work force.  She was employed as the manager of AAA Travel Guides, Hermitage for 10 years. When she moved to Youngstown, Anne worked for her daughter Geri's business, Step in Time, a company that designs dance clothing.  She answered the telephone, helped customers and was the cookie maker for the employees.   She continued to support and help at Step in Time until she was 90 years old.  From 90- 94 years of age, she volunteered at Akron Children's Hospital.
Anne's faith was an intimate part of her life.  She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, and was part of the Ladies Guild, often making the cavatelli served at the church's Carnavale.  Following her move to Youngstown, she became a member of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, Boardman, OH, where she was involved in it's card club and helped plan the senior citizens outings.
Anne was very social and made friends easily.  Anne loved to play cards with her family and friends; bridge, euchre and especially shangra-la were her favorites.
During the time she lived in senior independent living, she attended all the events and outings, played cards and bingo, and led the exercise classes.  Her favorite outings were the gambling trips so she could play the penny slots. She also enjoyed reading and crocheted beautiful blankets.
Family was everything to her.  She loved to tell the stories about growing up with six siblings and all the fun they had, especially when her brothers would play the accordion and piano, and they would all dance and sing. Anne showed her love by cooking for her family (Italian specialities, homemade pasta, pies, cookies) and many of the children and grandchildren called Granny Annie/Nana for advice.  She was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her husband, Anthony Bruno, whom she married February 7, 1942, passed away August 12, 1983. Anne and her husband, Tony, enjoyed their time together and made their family a priority.  They traveled extensively, loved to dance and each other.  He just wasn't permitted to smoke his cigar in the house.
She is survived by three children, Richard (Donna) Bruno, of Poland, OH, Geraldine (Robert) Slavin, of Lake Milton, and Deborah (Joe L) Carpenter, of North Canton; seven grandchildren, Anthony (Lauri) Bruno, Bridget (Jeremy) Mohr, Allison (Scott) Nemergut, Tiffany (Nick) Walton, Ryan (Erica) Carpenter, and Kayla and Justin Carpenter; and eight great grandchildren, Jacob and Will Bruno, Isabella and Oliver Mohr, Brady Nemergut, Harlow and Hendrix Walton and Auden Carpenter.
In addition to her parents and husband, Anne was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristen (Bruno) Hoffman; three sisters, Rose Leone, Jenny DeRamo and Josephine Lunich; and three brothers, James, Alfred and Louis Mangie.
The family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Medical Center and Crossroads Hospice for the exceptional care given to their mother, especially her hospice nurse, Katie.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E, Green, OH 44685.
