Obituary

Anna Mae Smith, 87, of 428 E. Hillcrest Ave., New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, August 10, 2010, in her home.

Mrs. Smith was born June 19, 1923 in New Castle a daughter of the late Willard F. and Anna Marie Dunn Todd. She attended the former St. Mary's Parochial Grade School and was a 1941 alumna of New Castle High School. Following high school, she was an operater for Bell Telephone for approximately eight years. A homemaker, Anna Mae was a lifetime active member of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, St. Mary Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister; a member of the Little Flower Club; a past member of Parish Council; and a volunteer bingo worker. She was also a member of the church 500 card club for many years. She was a member of Prime Timers at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church; the Cameo's at St. Camillus Church; and the former St. Francis Hospital Ladies Auxillary. In addition to her church activities, Anna Mae enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family.

Her husband, Robert W. Smith, whom she married October 30, 1945, passed away July 27, 1982. Surviving are: three daughters, Catherine (Cathie) Mack and her husband Harry, Edinburg; Susan Salzano and her husband James, New Castle; and Betsy George and her husband Jerry, Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Aaron Salzano; Mia Kay and her husband Joel; Carey Salzano; Gage Salzano; Jared Salzano; Harry Mack, Jr. and his wife Delayne; and Jennifer Benegasi; four great grandchildren, Kayli, Carly, Riley and Felix; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Anna Mae was preceded in death by a brother, Willard F. Todd, Jr.; and a sister, Winifred Martin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 in Mary, Mother of Hope Parish, St. Mary Church with the Rev. Victor J. Molka, Jr., pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, New Castle.
