A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Anna Minerva Marcu of 3090 Five Points-Hartford Road, Fowler, formerly of South Kerrwood Drive, Hermitage. She passed away Thursday (12-29-11) in St. Joseph's Health Center, Warren, Ohio, after a brief illness. She was 87.
Mrs. Marcu was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of Aurel and Pauline Barbat Toda.
She attended Sharon High School. During World War II and prior to her marriage, Anna worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and the Grey Wolf Tavern, Masury. She later was a waitress for several years at the former Oak Room in Hermitage.
A homemaker, Anna was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed playing cards and looked forward to her weekly bingo night. Anna was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of Holy Cross Orthodox Church, Hermitage, and active in its Ladies Aid Society.
Her husband, Nick Marcu Sr., whom she married Sept. 26, 1948, passed away March 17, 1998.
She is survived by: a daughter, Sophie A. Shirk and her husband Leland 'Tom' Shirk, Sharpsville; two sons, Nicholas A. Marcu Jr. and his wife Lin, Niles, Ohio; and Alan R. Marcu and his wife Linda, Prior Lake, Minn.; two brothers, Charles Toda and his wife Mary, Dubois, Pa.; and George Toda and his wife Lenore, Ellenton, Fla.; four grandchildren, Richard Quinn, Elizabeth Musulin, Thomas Shirk and Sophie Marcu; four stepgrandchildren, Misty and Bradley Bentley, Kimberly Burns and Connie Shirk; and two great-grandchildren, Aydan Quinn and Mia Musulin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sophie Morris; and four brothers, John, August, Paul and Earl Toda.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 950 Maple Drive, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Anna's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses, physicians and staff at Meadowbrook Manor for the excellent care provided to their mother.
