Obituary

Listening to a recording of her beloved husband singing, Ann Sandstrom of Hermitage took her last breath on Jan. 4, 2021. Born in Warren, PA on Sept. 10, 1930, Ann lived a fearless and energetic life.

Born in the first full year of the Great Depression, Ann was a survivor who was not going to let a worldwide pandemic stop her. It did not. She was a proud member of the Greatest Generation; had a varied career that she loved; raised five remarkable children who cared for her to the end; was a loyal friend to many; and was able to spend 59 years with the love of her life -- Jack.

Prior to spending many busy years as a Realtor, Ann used her gift of creativity working as an interior decorator, as well as in furniture and carpet sales. Without a doubt though, her favorite position was working as a tour guide at Fallingwater. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and an active member of the Sharon City Council for the Arts.

Ann was adventurous and loved to travel, dance, attend family reunions, meet up with her many dear friends, and take meticulous care of her home -- both inside and out. She donated $40 to many a casino slot machine and took great pleasure in investing in the stock market. As a teenager, Ann was an enthusiastic cheerleader for the Warren High School Dragons and could hold her own on an ice skating pond.

Ann's joys were her son Michael McKenna, Jr. (Linda), her daughters, Debra Double, Carol Wallace-McKay (John), Julie Spaulding (Chris), and Jamie Jerdan (Wayne); and her sister Mary White. She had seven grandchildren: Jonathan Daugherty, Marcy Fisher, Kurt and Michael McKenna, Kelsey Venegas, Steven Wallace, and Alexander Spaulding; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; numerous dear friends and excellent caregivers; and her precious cat Kalli.

Her greatest loss was her dear husband Jack, as well as her parents Charles and Eletta Tingwall; her brother John Tingwall; two infant sons Jeffery and John McKenna; an infant daughter Jennifer Sandstrom; her grandson Sgt. David Wallace III who was killed in action; and sadly many more.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, 800 Waterfront Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
