Obituary

Angelo Patrick Bonaquest of Sharon passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Sharon Regional Health Systems, with his family by his side. He was 87.

Angelo was born in Sharpsville, PA on October 14, 1923 to Anthony and Laura Pompa Bonaquest. He was the youngest of seven children who were raised on 10th street. Mr. Bonaquest was a graduate of Sharpsville High School. When he was 17, he went to work at Shenango Furnace, alongside his father until he was drafted for the United States Army in 1941.

His military experiences included a brief African Campaign, followed by a tour in Italy. Being of Italian descent and fluent in the language, he was chosen for undercover assignment for the CID. Frequenting the docks of Naples, he was soon on friendly terms with the criminal element of that city. The black marketers were diverting shipments of supplies to the Allies and reselling them to local populace. Angelo was accredited with sabotaging their efforts and finally apprehending these criminals.

While living in Naples, he met his first wife, Maria Michaela Troisi of Solofra, Italy. They were married in her hometown on November 15, 1943, in a wedding attended by the entire town.

Returning to the United States after the war, Angelo worked at many local businesses, such as G + K Electric, Roberts Hardware and Heighes Brothers. He then worked at GATX and then Lordstown as an electrician until he retired in 1997. Being too young in mind and body to stop working, he founded Bonaquest Electric with his long-time friend, Tom Davis and his grandson, Mike Shay. From construction companies to private citizens, Angelo's skills as an electrician and genuine concern for everyone he met, kept him in high demand.

After the death of his first wife, Angelo married June Ewing McLaughlin Bonaquest on August 14, 2003 and embarked on another adventure with 'June Bug'. Together, they shared a love that was obvious to all who met them. They spent their evening's together reading or watching TV, accompanied by a glass of wine and laughter. Their days together were spent cooking, gardening and connecting with their many friends and family.

While Angelo brought joy and love to all he met, his children and grandchildren were especially enriched by his presence in their lives. He taught them how to live and how to love and how to accept and validate all human life.

His life will be celebrated and his memory cherished by his wife, 'June Bug', his daughter, Jessica Schultz, his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Anne Bonaquest, his stepdaughter, Bonnie and her husband Chuck Hunt, his step son Danny McLaughlin and companion Anne Gyorek; Grandchildren, Kara and husband Todd Hosick, Anthony and wife Tara Bonaquest, Mike Shay, who called him Dad and fiancée, Alphonsina Giovanetti; grandchildren, Karin Shay with whom he had such a special bond, Shannon Baggiossi, Brooke Shay, Tera Porterfield, and his great great grandchildren, twins, Zyonna and Zylon Matthews. He will be sadly missed by friends, Tom Davis, Charlie Day, Richard Price, and Bill, who lives next door, all of his Giant Eagle and Hickory VFW buddies.

Angelo lived his life as a message of love delivered. At his request, there will be no calling hours or service. In lieu of flowers, please extend his message of love to the next person you meet.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146.
