Andrew C. Zidansek of Stone Ridge Boulevard, Hermitage, formerly of Herminie, Pa., and Florida, passed away peacefully at 4:50 a.m. Sunday (7-25-10) in his residence after an extended illness. He was 84.
Mr. Zidansek was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Westmoreland City, Pa., a son of Anton and Hermina Pangerl Zidansek.
He was a member of Norwin High School's graduating class of 1943. He also graduated from Westinghouse Tech, where he earned his engineering degree.
Mr. Zidansek retired in 1987 from Westinghouse Electric Corp. with 40 years of service, having worked in both Pittsburgh and Florida as an engineer in the company's Power Generation Division. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.
In his early years, he enjoyed polka dancing along with his wife; he also enjoyed playing his button box for family and friends. A decorated veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Philippines, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands as an electrician aboard a PT (Patrol Torpedo) boat with the South Pacific Fleet.
He is survived at home by his wife, the former Justina Petrini, whom he married April 23, 1949. Also surviving are: his daughter, Andrea L. Zidansek- Burkhart and her husband Charles Burkhart, Greensburg; his son, John A. Zidansek and his wife Catherine; and his three grandchildren, Jenna, Hannah and Michael Zidansek, all Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Cantini and Elizabeth Sekerka; and his brother, Anton Zidansek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Sharon Regional Health System Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday for Marie J. Zipay, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, Pa., formerly of Pine Tree Village Apartments, West Middlesex, and Buckeye Dr., Sharpsville, Pa. who passed away peacefully at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday (11-27-08) in St. Paul Homes, Greenville of natural causes. She was 79.
She was born May 20, 1929, in Turtle Creek, Pa. the daughter of John N. and Marie M. Roolf Mathewson.
A hostess, Mrs. Zipay worked for several local restaurants including J.C. Penny's in the Shenango Valley Mall, Guiliano's, Brookfield, Ohio, and the former Oak Room in Hermitage. She also worked in the jewelry department at the former Hills Department Store, Hermitage.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon and their Women's guild and she also attended Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
She was a member of the Auxiliary at John XXIII Home, Hermitage, where she enjoyed assisting with their crafts. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to the Nine Hearts Card Cub.
Her long time companion Joseph Viselli passed away January 27, 2008.
She leaves a daughter Betty Bornes and her husband George, Transfer, six sons Paul Zipay Jr. and his wife Faith of New Wilmington, Pa., John Zipay and his wife Connie, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Bruce Zipay and his wife Connie of Sharpsville, Pa., George Zipay and his wife Linda, Greenville, Bernard Zipay and his wife Heidi, American Canyon, Calif., James Zipay and his companion Sharon Belock, Sharon; and his long time companions son Gerald Viselli and his wife Ginny, Hermitage, two sisters Mildred Biblis, Sharon, Elizabeth "Betty" Smialkowski and her husband Edwin, Philadelphia Pa. , and a sister in law Thelma R. Mathewson, Rocky River, OH., and one brother Donald Mathewson, Sharon., and her grandchildren Tracey Smith, Amy White, Amber Hast, Lori Hammond, Michael Zipay, Brian Zipay, Holly Zipay, Noah Zipay, and her longtime companions grandchildren, Sharon and Erica Viselli, and seven great grandchildren Samantha, Brooke, Allison, Haley, Brianna, and Lexie and Alexis.
In addition to her long time companion, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Bernard, and John Richard Mathewson, one grandson Damon Zipay, and her former husband Paul D. Zipay Sr.
