Obituary

Andrew Chintella, 60 Wick Ave., Hermitage, PA passed away at 6:20 p.m. Saturday (12-26-09) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System with his sons by his side. He was 87.

Mr. Chintella was born October 13, 1922 in Farrell a son of the late Michael and Susan Vavrek Chintella.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1942 graduate of Farrell High School.

A decorated war veteran, he served with the US Army during W.W. II in the European Theater and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Chintella retired as a wireman in 1981 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he was employed for 34 years.

He was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Mr. Chintella was a member of the VFW Post # 5286, Farrell; and the American Legion Post # 299, Sharon.

His wife, the former Virginia A. Holodnik, whom he married July 2, 1944, passed away December 15, 2008. Surviving are: three sons, Mark A. Chintella and his wife Janette, Harrisburg; Kenneth A. Chintella and his wife Shelley, Phillipsburg, PA; and Lawrence D. Chintella, Streetsboro, Ohio; three grandchildren, Alex M. Chintella, Kendra L. Chintella and Tyler M. Chintella; a sister, Helen Lenero, Sharon; and two brothers, Paul Chintella and his wife Mary Alice; and Daniel Chintella, all Hermitage.

Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Chintella was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Howard and Margaret Kuzen; and three brothers, Joseph, Stephen and George Chintella.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday (12-29-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (12-29-09) in Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with Msgr. Edward J. Zeitler, senior associate, as celebrant.
