Obituary

Amelia C. 'Carrie' Hartzell, 84, of 3291 Evergreen Road, Pulaski, passed away peacefully in her home at 6:18 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, following an extended illness.
She was born March 21, 1924, a daughter of Frank and Frances Yany Raab.Mrs.
Hartzell was a 1945 graduate of the former Eastbrook High School and was class valedictorian.
She worked for 25 years in the Wilmington Area School District, where she had been the supervisor in the elementary school cafeteria.
A homemaker, she loved quilting, sewing, growing flowers and gardening.She was a life member of the New Bedford Garden Club. Mrs. Hartzell belonged to St. James the Apostle Church in New Bedford.
Her husband, William J. Hartzell, whom she married Dec. 31, 1945, survives at the residence. She also leaves her son, Timothy C. Hartzell and his wife, Nancy S. Hartzell, of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; a sister, Loretta Raab of New Castle; two grandchildren, John Adam Hartzell and his wife, Sarah, and Laura James and her husband, Matthew; and two great-grandsons, Emmett James and Lincoln James.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Teresa Kreitzer, Victoria M. Raab, Catherine L. Raab and Josephine C. Young.
In keeping with Mrs. Hartzell's wishes, funeral services will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
