Obituary

Alma "Jean" Beckman, 89, a longtime resident of Brookfield, OH passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 28, 2024, in Hospice House, Poland, OH.

Mrs. Beckman was born February 3, 1935, in Cumberland, MD, a daughter of the late Wilfred J. "Willie" and Ada Lee (Miller) Harris. She attended Allegany High School, Cumberland, MD, as well as Youngstown State University.

Previously a homemaker, Jean also worked as a teacher's aide at Addison Elementary School in Brookfield for many years. Family was the focal point of her life. Jean made monumental efforts to get her family together through the years, most notably with the massive family reunions she would host in her backyard. She was a very social person by nature and truly loved hosting family, friends, and neighbors.

She had a talent for athletics and remained very active throughout her life. Jean was an avid tennis player, golfer, softball player, and bowler – participating in many leagues in the Brookfield area, and also achieved a yellow belt in karate. Jean had a gift for many things artistic and especially enjoyed painting in watercolors, painting with oils, and sketching. She was also an avid baker and affectionately known as the "cookie lady."

Jean and her husband, Michael, traveled extensively throughout their lives, and even more so during retirement. The couple traveled both domestically and internationally by plane, RV, boat, and even traveled cross-country on a Goldwing Motorcycle.

Her husband and childhood sweetheart, Michael A. Beckman, whom she married May 28, 1954, preceded her in death March 4, 2020. He was truly the love of her life.

Jean is survived by a daughter, Terrie Beckman, Dayton, OH; a son, Steven Beckman and companion, Jolene Booher, Howland, OH; four sisters, Joan Gossler, Brookfield, OH, Joyce Giffin (Robert), Virginia Beach, VA, Jacqueline Brown (Stephen), Chalfont, PA, and Jayne Detwelier (Tim), Quakertown, PA; a brother, Joseph Harris, Sharon; six grandchildren, Kelly Crabtree (Aaron), Brandy Beckman, Michael Beckman (Kim), Kyle Beckman (Ashley), Lukas Beckman, and Jacob Beckman; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
