Obituary

Allan Lee Thompson, Hermitage, formerly of Baldwin Ave., Sharon, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Monday (11-30-09) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 74.

He was born on May 10, 1935 in Riverhead Long Island NY, the son of Lyman and Lucille Ruff Thompson.

Allan graduated from Linesville High School in 1953.

A self employed over the road truck driver, he drove for more than 30 years and retired in 1985.

Along with his wife, he belonged to Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage.

Some of Allan's memberships over the years included the Northwestern Tractor Pulling Association, Sons of Italy Shenango Valley Lodge 875, the American Legion Sharon Post 299, Greenville Elks Lodge 145.

He enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, bowling and Euchre and he belonged to a Euchre card club at one time.

Allan also was proud to have had his 15 minutes of fame in his role as the driver for Forest Whitaker's movie 'Diary of a Hit Man' that was filmed in the Sharon area in 1991.

He loved spending time watching his grandchildren and his dogs and he especially loved his large party's at the holidays and summer time picnics.

A veteran, he served with the United States Army and was honorably discharged from Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the Parachutist Badge on August 29th, 1957.

He celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary in April with his wife, the former Joan Alice Miller whom he married on April 11, 1959, she survives at home.

He is also survived by his four daughters, Terri Stepanchak and her husband George of Tampa Florida, Tami Craig and her husband Tim of Sharpsville, Tricia Yudt and her husband Robert of Erie, and Tracy Paoletta and her husband Paul of Hermitage; 11 grandchildren, Rob, Sarah, Steven, Marcus, and Emily Yudt, Stephanie and Shelby Bianco, Wyatt and Greer Stepanchak, and Lauren and Natalie Paoletta, a brother George Thompson, and a sister, Frances Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Carol McMillan, a brother, Lyman 'Bud' Thompson Jr. and a brother in law James Choffel.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage Pa 16148.
