Mrs. Makowski was born February 17, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Alois and Anna Lang Rabold.  As a young child, her family relocated to Mercer living on a dairy farm where she milked cows, enjoyed riding horses with her brothers, and swimming in the farm's pond.  She attended the Stokely one room school house for her primary education and graduated from Mercer High School in 1947.

Alice retired from J.C. Penney, Hermitage, where she worked as a retail sales clerk for many years.  Prior to devoting her time to raising her family, she worked in the administrative offices at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Sharon, and Reznor Manufacturing, Mercer.

She was a founding member and long time parishioner of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage and more recently attended Blessed Sacrament Church, Warren.

Alice was an avid reader and enthusiastically followed politics.  She had a passion for flower gardening and shopping, and enjoyed many different activities in her youth including dancing, golfing, and bowling.  She was a member of the J.C. Penney Retirees Group and attended their monthly gatherings, including last month.  She also spent time at the Howland Senior Center playing dominos.

Her husband, Milton "Max" Makowski, whom she married May 16, 1953, passed away November 11, 2007.  She is survived by two daughters; Cindy A. Croft and her husband Albert, Howland Twp., Ohio and Pam Betz and her husband Mike, Pittsburgh; and one brother, Donald Rabold and his wife Carole, Fredonia.  Also surviving are her grandchildren and great grandson with whom she adored and loved spending time; Lyndsie DeVito, Alyssa Croft, and Jeff, Brian, and Emily Betz; and great grandson, John DeVito.
