Alice G. Kelly, 90, of 213 Cambridge St., passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011 on the Norwegian Cruise Ship Pearl while on a cruise to Alaska. She was encircled by many loving family members at her passing.
Alice was born in New Castle on August 15, 1920 to the late Frank Hugh Maxwell and Edna Bell Young Maxwell.
During World War II, she was employed at United Engineering and The Johnson Bronze Co. Alice then worked for many years as the law librarian at the Lawrence County Court House under Judge Henderson. She was the business manager and editor of the Lawrence County Bar Association and legal referrals at the court house. She was also employed at the Bootary in the Townmall for 15 years.
Alice was a member of the Iota Alpha Sorority, Ritual of the Jewel Chapter, the Beta Sigma Phi, where she was the Girl of The Year and was a member of the Gray Lady. She also served as a volunteer with the Red Cross.
Alice is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Kelly of Catonsville, MD. Three sons, John H. Kelly and his wife Patricia of Columbia, MD, Randall L. Kelly and his wife June of Stafford, VA and Kevin Kelly and his wife Terri of Jacobson, MN. Also surviving are ten grand children and fourteen great grand children. Alice was also a foster mother to four children.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Frank H. Maxwell, Milton Maxwell, Donald M. Maxwell and Kenneth C. "Tick" Maxwell.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday and 10 am until the time of service at 11 am on Saturday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.
Interment will follow at the North Liberty Cemetery.
