Obituary

Alice M. (O'Brien) Donnelly of Sharon passed away peacefully at 7:44 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, in her residence. She was 98.

Mrs. Donnelly was born February 1, 1919, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Barnes) O'Brien.  A lifelong area resident, Alice graduated from Sharon High School and went to work at Rosenbloom's (Golden Dawn Distributor) as an executive assistant.

She married Edward Donnelly in 1948, and together they had eight children. The couple owned and operated Donnelly's Golden Dawn Foods, Hermitage, from 1951 until selling the store in 1986.

Alice was a daily communicant and a devoted member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

She was a dedicated volunteer for the former Kennedy Christian Boosters Organization, Hermitage, and was honored at the Golden Eagle Ball in recognition of her many years of service. Alice also actively volunteered at St. Joseph's Parochial Grade School, the Newman Club, and the Sharon General Hospital Auxiliary, all Sharon.

Family was an integral part of Alice and Ed's life, and together they shared wonderful times with all their family members.

Surviving are: seven children, Edward Donnelly and his wife Mary Kay, Cleveland, OH; David Donnelly and his wife Sheila, Pittsburgh; Julia Hattrup and her husband Gerald, Maple Glen, PA; James Donnelly and his fiancé Sherry Deutsch, Cleveland, OH;  Jane "Sis" Donnelly, Columbus, OH;  Molly MacDonald and her husband Robert, Kirkland, WA;  and Carole Donnelly, Pittsburgh. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Kathleen Donnelly; and eight siblings.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers from St. Paul's Without Walls, Southern Care Hospice Services, and especially Kim Stephenson, for their great kindness and wonderful care they provided Alice in the last years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church Food Pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon; Southern Care Hospice, 3009 Wilmington Rd., New Castle, PA 16105; or CatholicTV, www.CatholicTV.org .

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday ( 7-27-17 ) in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant, and Rev. Glenn Whitman, con-celebrant.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
