Alexander S. Krotenak, 88, of Hermitage passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Nugents Nursing Home.
Mr. Krotenak was born April 12, 1930, in Sharon, to Frank and Anna Tarlecki Krotenak. Alexander was a graduate of Sharon High School and received his Bachelors degree from Grove City College. He furthered his education at the University of Pittsbugh, where he received his Masters Degree in mathematics. He retired in 1986, after a 32 year career as a math teacher at Sharpsville High School. He received many awards in mathematics and served as President for the Sharpsville Education Association.
He was an army veteran and served in the medical corps during the Korean War. He was a member of Notre Dame Church, Hermitage and of the Sacred Heart Church, Sharon prior to it's closing.
Throughout his life he volunteered with many local organizations; Knights of Columbus, Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union, Hermitage Zoning Commission, and many Russian language programs.
Mr. Krotenak was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Frank Krotenak, a sister, Virginia Royba Powell, two brothers; Clarence DuPont, and Carl Roba.
He is survived by nieces; Gail Powell and Lynne Powell, Santa Fe, New Mexico, niece Connie Powell, Hermitage, nieces Paula Roba Kahl, Janet Roba Kodrick, and nephew, Paul Roba of Cleveland, Ohio, and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.
He loved gardening and taking care of his beloved pets.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Rd, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018, in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard J. Allen, E.V., pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
