Alexander William Dorsch, 52, of Hermitage, passed away Thursday morning, September 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Dorsch was born November 7, 1971, in Pittsburgh, a son of Robert Dorsch and Claire Geimer Dorsch. He was a graduate of Quigley Catholic High School and attended Mount St. Mary's College. He later earned a masters degree from Slippery Rock University.

Al worked as a science and social studies teacher at Shenango Area School District, primarily teaching grades 5 and 7.

Al played rugby for the Pittsburgh Harlequins for many years. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, canoeing, and being outdoors. He was a falconer, an avid gardener, and along with his father, was a member of the Breakneck Beagle Club.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, visiting over 50 national parks and historic sites across the United States. Al truly loved having the privilege to coach both of his children in swimming.

Al married the former Rita Maricone on August 4, 2006.

In addition to his wife and mother, Al is survived by a son, Nathaniel James; a daughter, Nadia Alexandria; six siblings and their spouses, Robert, Gregory, Jennifer, Nicholas, Veronica, Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Shenango Community Education Foundation. Al's family has established a fund in his name that will make it possible for Shenango teachers to finance future social studies and science initiatives.
