Albert Nicastro of Sharon passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 7, 2017 , in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 92.
Mr. Nicastro was born April 23, 1925, in Sharon, a son of Samuel and Michaelina (Depascale) Nicastro. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1943 graduate of Farrell High School where he was co-captain of the varsity football team.
Albert served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War, and was stationed in Europe for both tours of duty.
Albert retired as a foreman in 1987 from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant, where he worked for 27 years.
He was a longtime member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.
Albert was a member of VFW, Sharon, and the New Deal Club, Farrell, where he also enjoyed playing bocce. An avid reader, he particularly enjoyed military history and sports history. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His wife of more than 61 years, the former Eunice Colclaser, whom he married December 23, 1942, passed away February 13, 2004.
Surviving are: a daughter, Sharon A. (Wayne) Rankin, Newton Falls, OH; three grandchildren, Chris (Lori) Rankin, Amy (Ben) Cleland and Dan Rankin; six great grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) Rankin, Lauren Rankin and Chris Rankin, II; Alayna and Brady Christman; and Cali Cleland; and a great great grandson, Cooper Rankin.
In addition to his wife, Albert was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Donna Jean Nicastro; three sisters, Mary Sas, Rosalie Frisco and Serena Franks; three brothers, Samuel, William and Edward Nicastro.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday ( 12-9-17 ) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Noon Saturday ( 12-9-17 ) in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Dutch Lane, Hermitage, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery.
