Albert John Krauss, Jr., 155 Lyle Dr., Hermitage, passed away Saturday morning (11-6-10) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell. He was 79.
Mr. Krauss was born December 5, 1930 in Hickory Township (now Hermitage), PA a son of the late Albert John Krauss, Sr. and Mildred J. Adams Krauss.
He was a lifelong area resident and attended Hickory schools.
John owned and operated the former Krauss's Esso on Silver St. in downtown Sharon during the late 1950's. He then worked briefly for Bolotin Furniture before joining Fabulous Goldstein's. He retired in 1995 from Goldsteins Furniture with more than 30 years of employment in the service and delivery departments.
He was a charter member of the Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage where he and his wife were active throughout the years. John loved wood working and working on furniture and operated John's Furniture Service from his home for many years. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and spending time at his camp in Sigel, PA.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Charlene Julia Smith, whom he married August 16, 1950 in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; three sons, John A. Krauss and his wife Susan, Hermitage; Gary L. Krauss, Sharon; and Raymond C. Krauss, Aiken, SC; three daughters, Elaine M. Krauss, Mercer, PA; Karen L. (Krauss) Schaefer and her husband Russell P. Schaefer, Sunman, IN; and Kathleen A. (Krauss) McCreary and her husband Kenneth McCreary, Mercer, PA; six grandchildren, Brian J. Krauss; Sherry L. (Krauss) Cochran; Kayla A. McCreary; Kyle S. McCreary; Haley R. Krauss; and Andrew R. Krauss; two great grandchildren, Carley H. Cochran and Corey W. Cochran; a brother, Robert T. Krauss and his wife Barbara, Brookfield, Ohio; three uncles, Edward Krauss; Walter Krauss; and Paul Krauss and his wife Alice; and a nephew, Robert Krauss and his wife Janice, West Middlesex, PA.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Krauss; and a brother George Krauss, who died in infancy.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of Notre Dame or Notre Dame School, both 2335 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mass of Christian burial will be 4 p.m. Tuesday (11-9-10) in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffrey Noble, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
